Smart Contracts: The Core Token

Estimated reading: 3 minutes

The MEDRE token itself is implemented as an ERC-20 smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain. This contract governs the core token functionalities, including:

  • Token Issuance: Defining the total supply and initial distribution of MEDRE tokens.
  • Token Transfers: Enabling the secure and transparent transfer of tokens between addresses.
  • Token Burning: Implementing the mechanism for permanently removing tokens from circulation, contributing to the token’s deflationary nature.

Security Measures within the Smart Contract:
In addition to the core functionalities, the MEDRE token contract incorporates critical security measures designed to protect token holders and the integrity of the ecosystem:

  • Pause Functionality: MEDRE retains the right to pause the contract for a specific duration. This might be necessary for various reasons, such as:
    • Proxy Contract Upgrades: Implementing improvements or adding new features to the token contract.
    • Investigating Malicious Activity: Responding to suspicious or potentially harmful behavior on the network.

In all cases, any pause in the contract will be communicated transparently on our social media channels. Planned upgrades will be announced in advance, and any instances of malicious activity will be communicated promptly to keep the community informed.

  • Blacklisting Mechanism: In the event of detected malicious activity, MEDRE reserves the right to blacklist specific addresses. This prevents those addresses from sending, receiving, or trading MEDRE tokens. This measure is crucial in scenarios such as:
    • Compromised Accounts: If a token holder’s account is hacked, the open nature of the blockchain allows us to trace the perpetrator’s address. Blacklisting this address prevents them from transacting with stolen MEDRE tokens.
    • Fraudulent Activity: Blacklisting can be used to combat various fraudulent activities, such as scams or phishing attempts.

When an address is blacklisted, we will not only block it from trading our assets but also take further actions:

  • Law Enforcement Reporting: We, or the original token holder, will report the incident and the blacklisted address to the appropriate law enforcement authorities in hopes of recovering the stolen tokens.
  • Exchange Notification: We will notify cryptocurrency exchanges about the blacklisted address, urging them to block it from trading any assets. This collaborative approach helps protect the broader crypto community and limits the perpetrator’s ability to profit from their illicit activities. However, it is ultimately up to each individual exchange to decide whether to honor the blacklist request.

These security measures are in place to safeguard the MEDRE token ecosystem and protect the interests of our token holders. We believe that transparency and proactive security are essential for building trust and fostering a healthy and secure environment for all participants. Furthermore, we believe these measures are in line with MiCA regulations, designed to safeguard people’s assets and enhance the overall security of the digital asset space.
